A plain-language guide to Sermorelin

Sermorelin is a growth-hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) analog. In simple terms, it is a lab-made version of a signal your brain already uses. That signal tells the pituitary gland, a small gland at the base of the brain, to release your own growth hormone. Sermorelin does not supply growth hormone directly.

People are often curious about Sermorelin because of claims they have seen online about aging, body composition, sleep or energy. Research in humans on those uses in adults without a diagnosed growth hormone deficiency is limited, and we do not present any of them as established. Sermorelin is also not currently an FDA-approved marketed product, and compounded sermorelin is not FDA-approved. This page explains what it is, how our process works, what it costs and what risks to ask about, so you can decide whether it is worth a conversation with a provider.

How the program works, step by step

1. Start your online intake. You answer questions about your health history, medications, supplements, allergies and goals. Please be thorough. Your provider relies on this information to decide whether Sermorelin is safe for you.
2. A licensed provider reviews it. Most intakes are reviewed asynchronously, meaning the provider reads your answers rather than meeting you live. A live video visit may be requested if the provider needs more information, and it is required in some states. The provider decides whether a prescription is appropriate. A prescription is never guaranteed.
3. First prescription, if appropriate. If approved, the first prescription is for 4 weeks. Sermorelin is prepared by a compounding pharmacy as an injection. The dose we offer is 500 to 600 mcg per dose, from a 5 mL vial at 2 mg/mL. Your provider gives the directions for how to use it.
4. Check-in at 3 to 4 weeks. A refill review happens at 3 to 4 weeks. You are asked how you are doing and about any side effects. If the provider decides to continue, refill prescriptions are written for 12 weeks.
5. Reviews every 12 weeks. After that, your provider reviews your treatment every 12 weeks. They may talk with you about whether it is still appropriate, and about monitoring things such as blood sugar or thyroid function.
6. Ask for a live consult any time. You can ask to speak live with a provider at no extra cost, whether you have a question or a concern.

Because you are not guaranteed a prescription and the evidence for benefit is limited, talk with your provider about whether it is right for you before you commit.

Eligibility, safety and side effects

Sermorelin is not currently an FDA-approved marketed product, and compounded medications are not FDA-approved. The FDA does not review compounded drugs for safety, effectiveness or quality before they are marketed. Tell your provider about every medication and supplement you take, and about all medical conditions, before starting.

Common side effects

• Redness, pain, swelling or itching where you inject.
• Flushing, meaning warmth or reddening of the face.
• Headache.
• Dizziness.

Serious risks and warnings

• Allergic reactions are possible with any injectable medication. Seek emergency care for trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or a widespread rash.
• Because Sermorelin acts on the hormone system, your provider may discuss possible effects on blood sugar and thyroid function and whether monitoring is needed. Tell your provider if you have diabetes, a thyroid condition or any hormone-related condition.
• Sermorelin is not for use in pregnancy.
• It is not appropriate for people with active cancer or certain pituitary conditions. Your provider decides this from your intake. Do not decide on your own.
• Stop and contact your provider or a local medical professional if you have new or worsening symptoms that concern you.
